Applying For Benefits

Skilled Consultants For Filing A Disability Claim In Council Bluffs Or The Surrounding Areas

While applying for Social Security benefits may seem straightforward, the truth is that even little mistakes could be used as grounds for denial by the Social Security Administration (SSA). At Disability Claim Consultants, we help people in Omaha and surrounding areas of Nebraska and western Iowa properly apply for the benefits they need to support themselves and their families.

How To Apply For Benefits

If you need Social Security Disability (SSD) benefits or Supplemental Security Income (SSI), you can file an application and supporting medical documents in person at the local SSA office in Omaha. Your may also call 877-686-2244  to request a phone application or apply online at www.socialsecurity.gov. Our Omaha disability claims consultants can help you with your application and in gathering all required medical evidence. We can help with the completion of the necessary paperwork with the goal of accurately demonstrating your need for benefits.

Even well-prepared applications can be denied, and historically, over 60 percent of all SSD/SSI applications are denied the first time. If this happens to you, we will advocate for you in appealing your denied claim.

Who Qualifies For Benefits?

In order to qualify for SSD or SSI benefits, your injury or disability must prevent you from doing "substantial gainful activity" for at least 12 months. The following also applies:

  • Those applying for SSD benefits must have "insured status." This means that you have worked and paid Social Security taxes for five of the past 10 years. If you do not have a long work history, you may still be able to apply for SSD benefits if you meet certain qualifications.
  • SSI benefits are available based upon need. Individuals or parents of children with qualifying disabilities must meet certain income requirements or have household assets valued at less than $2,000 for an individual and $3,000 for a couple.

All SSD and SSI applications must include specific, documented medical evidence of your injury and treatment, so keeping a detailed record of all of your doctors' appointments and medications is essential.
